Open Table Cape Town

As a Catholic church community, we welcome all who are seeking an inclusive, and faith-filled fellowship, united in the desire to draw nearer to God the Creator, Jesus the Christ, and Sofia the Holy Spirit. We journey together in faith by:

  • Seeking transformative spiritual growth through contemplative prayer in community;
  • Acknowledging and pursuing the equality of all people in the church, by supporting women to lead, and in particular, women priests belonging to the Roman Catholic Womenpriest movement; by including people of all sexual orientations; and by loosening hierarchies;
  • Drawing wisdom from diverse sources, including Christian scriptures and spirituality, other religions, the sciences, narrative and artistic traditions, and the experiences of our community;
  • Encouraging and supporting each other in a caring and prayerful manner, including by nurturing small groups such as prayer, walking, reading and study groups;
  • Working in our wider community, and wherever else there is need, for empowerment to further justice, human rights and planetary wellbeing.

Centering Prayer

Ever since the desert mothers and fathers moved away from the towns to seek the quiet of the desert in which to develop their relationship with God, people have practised silent prayer.  It was developed and used as one of the monks’ principal spiritual tools in the monasteries.
Based on Jesus’ injunction in Matthew’s gospel… “when you pray go into your secret room and close the door and God, who sees you in secret, will reward you.”
Anyone is free to join the group the first Sunday at the Pinelands Methodist Church Mowbray at 15h30 for 20 minutes, before Eucharist starts at 16h00.
