2nd July '26: Letter from Sarah
Dear pilgrims at the Open Table
My apologies for a delayed monthly email. I have been attending to my father who is seriously ill and now in hospital.
This month we are back to our rhythm of first Sunday, second Sunday and fourth Sunday. Please take note however, of the earlier starting time for our Taize service in Lynedoch.
Sunday 5th July at 4pm South African time in Cape Town
We will gather in person at Pinelands Methodist Church for a Eucharist at 4pm. You are welcome to join us for 20 minutes of centering prayer before the service, starting at 3.30pm. The Eucharist will also be on Zoom (but not the centering prayer). We have a bring and share tea after the service. If you would like the Zoom link and liturgy resource, please contact me. We would love to have a bigger pool of readers and people who create the prayers, so please contact me if you are interested in participating in this way.
Sunday 12th July at 9am at Lynedoch Eco Village near Stellenbosch
We will have a one-hour meditative Taize service with chants, readings, silence and prayers. It will not be on Zoom. Please contact me if you would like directions to the village.
Sunday 26th July at 10am at Lynedoch Eco Village near Stellenbosch
We will gather in person in the studio at Lynedoch Eco Village for a Eucharist at 10am. We will also be online, so please be in contact with me if you would like the Zoom link and liturgy resource.
Online reading group for ‘Liturgies for Resisting Empire’
So far three people have indicated they would like to join me in reading and discussing Liturgies for Resisting Empire by Kat Armas. If you would like to join the small group, please be in touch with me by 10th July as we would like to have our first gathering soon.

2nd June '26: Letter from Sarah
Dear pilgrims at the Open Table
Greetings from Johannesburg as I spend my last day visiting my son, daughter in law and grandson. It is such a blessing to see little people grow and develop language and motor skills. Noah is an avid football player at not quite 18 months old!
This month we have one change to our usual pattern of services. Our contemplative Taize service has moved to the third Sunday of June due to people potentially taking a long weekend over 14th June. Please also note that I am offering to host monthly online discussions on the book, ‘Liturgies for Resisting Empire’ for those who don’t belong to reading groups that will be reading the book.
Sunday 7th June at 4pm in Cape Town
We will have our monthly Eucharist at Pinelands Methodist Church in Cape Town this coming Sunday at 4pm. We will also be on Zoom, so please do send me an email if you would like the Zoom link and liturgy. Uschi will be preaching and celebrating for us.
Sunday 21st June at 10am at Lynedoch Eco Village
We will have our monthly Taize service in the studio at Lynedoch Eco Village, near Stellenbosch. This is a service of chants, prayers, readings and silence. You are welcome to join us for this time of meditation and stillness. We are not online for this service. Please contact me if you would like directions to the village.
This day is also Ann Ralston’s 90th birthday!
Sunday 28th June at 10am at Lynedoch Eco Village
We will have our monthly Lynedoch Eucharist at 10am in the studio and online. Please contact me if you would like the Zoom link and liturgy or directions to join us in the village.
Online discussion group on Liturgies for Resisting Empire
If you are interested in discussing this very relevant and interesting book in an online group, please contact me at this email address by 10th June. We will sort out a day and time that suits those wanting to participate.
